VEGF is expressed primarily in vascularized tissues and has been implicated in the induction of tumor metastasis and intraocular neovascular syndromes. Activation occurs through three of the VEGF receptors: fms-like tyrosine kinase (flt-1), KDR gene product (the murine homolog of human KDR is the flk-1 gene product) and the flt- 4 gene product. VEGF works synergistically with FGF-2 to dramatically amplify angiogenesis. VEGF is provided in 1 µg amounts and qualified in the Directed In Vivo Angiogenesis Assay (DIVAA™).
